Milford Infrastructure Study
The Infrastructure Study involved reviewing the archives for the General Motors Milford Proving Grounds and retrieving the information for each site element serving every building. Each mechanical and electrical system serving the site was tracked down through review of the drawing progression and incorporation of the most recent elements. Further, interviews with facilities personnel finalized the site information. The information was then transferred to electronic format through input into a single AutoCAD drawing file. The file was set up in separate layers for each system, including storm, sanitary, gas, chilled water, power, communications, telephone, etc.
“Viewing Drawings” were set up for each system, which referenced the main file allowing an individual to look only at a specific system or systems. This allowed those responsible for plumbing to look at all of the plumbing elements without the added confusion of the other systems, etc. A training session was held with various members of the site Facilities Managers and Maintenance groups to assist them in understanding how the electronic drawings were set up. The site infrastructure drawings included valuable required information to enable trouble shooting and site development analysis, yet were simple enough that persons not trained in computer drawing were able to access valuable information without researching a room full of archived drawings.
