Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a set of information generated and maintained throughout the lifecycle of a building. The design process is generally a disconnected, discipline-specific process with multiple steps. To cut down on the information disconnect, collaboration between team members can improve through the use of BIM. This provides the potential for a virtual information model to be handed from Design Team to Contractor and Subcontractors and then to the Owner, each adding their own additional discipline-specific knowledge and tracking of changes to the single model. The result is anticipated to greatly reduce the information loss that occurs when a new team takes “ownership” of the project as well as in delivering extensive information to owners of complex structures far beyond that to which they are currently accustomed. It also prevents errors by both the design team and the construction team, reducing costs for all members of the project. BIM offers increased sustainability and efficiency through improved productivity and visualization, increased coordination of CDs and speed of delivery, reduced cost and errors, and optimization of material usage. DSD has utilized BIM successfully on numerous projects to date. The reduction in time spent to complete construction due to reduced errors and omissions and related delays also contributes to the savings BIM can bring about. An estimate of construction savings has not been assessed but as BIM continues to be used in the industry, those savings to the owner will be ever more significant. Not only does BIM provide cost savings, it also allows for a better final product. The use of this integrated design tool makes resolving issues easier and able to happen earlier in the design process. It also encourages creative solutions, and enables team members and clients to provide constant feedback. The advantages of BIM can also be utilized by facility managers who can continue to use the information model throughout the life of the building for numerous reasons, such as determining necessary improvements over the life of the building and providing up-to-date and accurate as-built documentation for future projects.
DSD is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council and works to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, healthy places to occupy. DiClemente Siegel Design works to design mechanical and electrical systems that maximize comfort, user effectiveness & safety, and building performance. DSD recommends energy conserving HVAC systems, EMS controls, high efficiency interior lighting, and exterior lighting with optimized cost/efficiency ratio for every project the firm undertakes. DSD also looks for opportunities to use alternate energy sources such as ice storage and a host of other improvements that will reduce costs such as energy recovery systems. DSD is pleased to have approximately 40% of our professional staff as LEED Accredited Professionals® including company president, Louis Trama, PE. The title, LEED AP, indicates an experienced building industry practitioner who has demonstrated knowledge of integrated design and the capacity to facilitate the LEED certification process on the LEED Professional Accreditation exam. The exam tests an individual's understanding of green building practices and principles, and familiarity with LEED requirements, resources, and processes. • DSD integrated Sustainability and LEED practices in all designs • All projects in the past 3 years incorporate LEED practices • With DSD’s LEED expertise, we have served as owner consultants for LEED Certified projects to assist in completing the required documentation
DSD has been involved in numerous successful design-build projects and has built long standing relationships with several design-build partners who have returned for new projects due to the success of previous engagements. DSD is focused on being flexible, quick and nimble with our services: • Working in collaboration with the contractor to meet the owner's budget • Staying accountable and responsive to timing requirements • Leveraging our previous experience in developing criteria packages • "Doing it right the 1st time" to minimize effort while maximizing benefits Past design-build collaborations include the 150,000 sf Detroit Recreation Department Northwest Activities Activities Center, the 850,000 sf (after adding intermediate floor) Ford Motor Company Product Development Center and Ford Motor Company's iTek Center which consists of two (2) 250,000 sf buildings.
DiClemente Siegel Design Inc. (DSD) offers forensic and construction litigation support services. DSD’s highly qualified engineers and architects inspect and analyze conditions caused by defective design or construction. DSD provides Registered Professional Engineers and Architects to work with attorneys and claims adjusters to bring forth the “truth”. Forensic Analysis/Expert Witness services include: • Building design reviews • Engineering systems troubleshooting • Due diligence evaluations • Litigation/arbitration support • Expert testimony The hallmark of DSD’s involvement with forensic analysis has been our ability to provide answers to difficult HVAC, electrical, utility system, and architectural issues.
